Our design principles

A standardized powertrain platform for every vessel

Every vessel shouldn't require a new system design. Pascal turns powertrain integration into a repeatable, standardized product. Yards and owners get predictable timelines, consistent quality, and a system that performs the same way every time.

Minimal engineering

Pre-configured modules replace custom design work. The core system is standardized - only the top layer adapts to your vessel.

Minimal commissioning

Systems are pre-tested as a complete unit before delivery, significantly reducing commissioning time at the yard.

Built for uptime

Robust architecture with redundancy and remote diagnostics. When something needs attention, we see it before it becomes a problem

Platform flexibility

Standard control platform, your choice of components

The core architecture is standard and proven. One standardized, modular control platform, built for vessels with limited space and light weight. The standard part is the control layer and the interfaces. The component choice stays yours.

The Paradigm Shift

From one-off vessel integration to a standard powertrain product

We replace one-off engineering with a standardized, scalable architecture.

The Industry Standard

The Pascal Standard

Manual Field Wiring

Complex, manual cable termination on-board that is time-consuming and error-prone.

Prefabricated Harness

Industrial-grade, pre-terminated HV and communication cabling. Click, connect, and go.

Vendor Lock-in

Architecture tightly coupled to specific suppliers, making changes costly or impossible.

Open Architecture

Modular integration. Use our pre-verified partners or integrate preferred components without rewriting the system.

Bulky Infrastructure

Large, heavy HV/LV/Control cabinets that consume valuable technical space.

Distributed Hubs

Compact EMS, Battery, and Propulsion hubs that are lightweight and easy to place.

Proprietary Code

Custom-written software for every vessel, making updates difficult and bugs frequent.

Scalable Platform

Standardized, version-controlled software that gets smarter with every fleet update.

Unpredictable Cost

Variable pricing driven by engineering hours, troubleshooting, and delays.

Fixed Product Pricing

A defined scope with a predictable price tag. You pay for the result, not the effort.

Fragmented Controls

Multiple screens and throttles for different subsystems (battery, motor, hotel load).

Unified Command

One central interface (OVC) controlling the entire powertrain and energy flow, and other systems in one.

What the platform does

Eight functions delivered with every configuration

These eight functions come with every vessel and every configuration.

Energy and power management

Manages energy flow between onboard sources and consumers, keeping every component within the limits set by batteries, generators and shore connection.

Propulsion and thrust control

Controls motors and inverters from throttle lever to shaft, keeping them within nominal limits and the power actually available.

GenSet and grid control

On hybrid vessels, controls generator output so the DC grid supports the intended operation without exceeding the limits of batteries or propulsion units.

Thermal management

Keeps batteries and propulsion units within thermal limits in hot and cold climates, as a complete system or as control of equipment you specify.

Hotel and auxiliary loads

Supplies AC switchboards in single and redundant configurations, and powers larger consumers directly where the vessel requires it.

Safety

Monitors and controls safety instrumentation in the battery compartment so hazardous conditions are detected and mitigated as early as possible.

Remote diagnostics and connectivity

A secure remote connection carries operational data to your cloud environment or ours, and delivers security and functional updates onboard. Compliant with the EU Cyber Resilience Act.

Integration

Implements the interfaces to each vendor's equipment, tunes control behaviour to the operational profile, and commissions the vessel through harbour and sea trials with the documentation the yard and class society need.

How you buy it

Three delivery models, from control platform to full turnkey

Three different models exist because yards and owners differ in how much of the value chain they want to own. The control platform is always included, and the scope can extend to a complete turnkey delivery with all documentation and FAT before shipment. In every case, Pascal is accountable for the control, performance and safety of the integrated system.

Control platform scope: Pascal control software, controllers and wiring harness connecting customer-supplied motors, inverters and batteries.
Control platform

For yards that want to source their own power components. You supply motors, inverters, batteries and power cabling; Pascal makes them behave as one system.

How we deliver the powertrain platform

We partner with shipyards to integrate the complete electrical system for electric and hybrid vessels, covering energy management, power distribution, propulsion control, integrated automation (IAS), vessel monitoring, and hotel loads. Our structured process eliminates project risk by delivering a single, pre-integrated system that is ready for installation.

This approach ensures a streamlined installation process, minimized on-site work, and a consistent level of quality across the fleet.

After delivery, our commitment continues with remote diagnostics, continuous over-the-air updates for our control systems, and ongoing technical support to maintain peak operational efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you actually deliver?

We deliver the complete powertrain from throttle to propeller or electric motor. This includes energy management, batteries, propulsion interface, control and the pre terminated wiring system.

Can we use our own component suppliers?

Yes. You can use your preferred batteries, motors or other equipment as long as they are compatible. We avoid adding margin on standard components and can share the full bill of materials if you want to procure directly.

Are we locked into Pascal for service or aftermarket?

No. The architecture is open and documented. You keep access to data, interfaces and components, and can be autonomous in service and upgrades.

How much vessel specific engineering is needed?

Very little. The core system is standard. Only the top layer is adapted to the vessel layout and operational needs.

Does the system work with hybrid or conventional propulsion?

Yes. Our focus is on the electric side of the vessel. We integrate full electric and hybrid powertrains, and we also support conventional vessels when they include an electrical system such as a battery pack for auxiliary loads, peak shaving or hotel power. The mechanical driveline stays with the yard or engine supplier, while we deliver the electrical architecture around it.

Do you integrate with other vessel systems outside the powertrain?

Yes. We integrate with other ship functions when it strengthens the electrical architecture. This includes towing winches, bow thrusters, charging systems, hotel loads, steering and navigation data.We define the scope early so responsibilities stay clear and the yard keeps control of the systems that belong with them.
